Use a Sock to Clean Your Car’s Cup Holders

Suppose you aren’t able to use any of the myriad cup holder hacks that are suggested in my book.

Say, you don’t own any silicone fairy cake cups, yet your car isn’t new enough or luxurious enough to have removable cup holder liners.

You’re going to have to clean them out every so often – irritatingly often, in fact. Use a car vac and it won’t remove anything damp or sticky, but use a cloth and it’s labour-intensive and you’re still likely to miss bits.

The answer is in the hacker’s favourite item of clothing, the sock.

Grab an older sock and stretch it over a glass that fits nicely in a cup holder. Then spray the bottom of the sock-enveloped tumbler sparingly with household cleaner.

Insert this end into the cup holder, give it a twist, and pull it out – the bottom will attract the muck, leaving the bottom of the drink holder nice and clean.

Repeat for the rest of your car’s receptacles, and then sling your sock in the washer.
